What's the job?

This role involves managing technical efforts, ensuring alignment with project requirements, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative and efficient design solutions. The Design Manager will be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of engineering design in accordance with ISO 9001 while meeting project goals and deadlines.

We want someone who can 

  • Manage the growth and development of younger engineers, including achievement of CPEng status
  • Ensure the technical accuracy and feasibility of design solutions
  • Maintain and continuously update team ISO 9001 systems and procedures to ensure consistency and quality
  • Ensure all engineering designs, drawings, and specifications are appropriately reviewed and approved for distribution
  • Manage the development and optimisation of our product range, ensuring management of change principles are followed
  • Encourage innovation and continuous improvement within the team
  • Implement new design methodologies and processes to improve efficiency and creativity
  • Work closely with the Project Delivery Manager to oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering design projects from concept to completion
  • Allocate resources effectively and manage project timelines
  • Ensure that the automation and commissioning teams work with the project delivery team to ensure seamless transitions from construction to commissioning phases

You will be able to:

  • Lead and inspire the design team, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment
  • Maintain positive working relationships within Apex Water providing clear direction, support and feedback to team members
  • Ensure that Apex Water processes and procedures are always implemented
  • Develop and manage the design team budget
  • Motivate staff members, encourage collaborative working between all areas of the business
  • Develop team members by identifying their potential, provide mentoring and training to make sure obtained skills are in line with both employees and company’s objectives
  • Ensure Design Team site activities are completed to H&S best practice and effectively utilise Apex’s H&S systems and processes
  • Make sure the team structure is most efficient to deliver required objectives
  • Set targeted performance levels for the team members and carry out regular reviews in line with the company’s policies and procedures
  • Provide professional and positive leadership while maintaining and enhancing the employment brand of the company

About you:

  • You will have leadership and team management skills
  • Appropriate technical qualifications at tertiary level, BE or equivalent
  • Strong portfolio showcasing a range of engineering design projects.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Detailed knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes, chemicals and their storage and handling
  • Strong computer literacy and working knowledge of the Microsoft suite
  • 10+ years’ experience in water and wastewater processes
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in engineering design, with at least 5 years in a managerial position.
  • Excellent understanding of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of business systems and their application
  • Detailed knowledge of site Health and Safety and the H&S at Work+ Act
