Karaka Village Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants
Karaka Village Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants
Apex Water was engaged to assist with consenting, design and construction of new water and wastewater treatment plants for the Karaka North Village development, which had no access to a reticulated water supply or sewer.Consents were obtained to take water from two bores and dispose of treated wastewater via an irrigation system or into surface water, depending on weather conditions. Apex then delivered this turnkey project, including the completion of all earthworks, civil works, buildings and structures. The water treatment plant includes pH correction, greensand filtration for the removal of iron and manganese, UV disinfection, chlorine disinfection using an on-site electrochlorination system and fluoridation. Wastewater is treated via a membrane bioreactor (MBR) and UV disinfection, with waste solids dewatered using a decanter centrifuge.A rapid consenting, design and construction process has allowed the project to be completed to meet the developer’s programme. Apex is now operating the plants for the developer.
