Apex Water was engaged to design, then construct a wastewater treatment plant and land treatment area for Scapegrace’s new distillery at Bendigo Downs, on the hill above Lake Dunstan outside of Cromwell.The design phase included the completion of pilot plant trials using a ceramic membrane plant on their existing site to confirm wastewater composition and separation performance and identify what waste streams should be captured at source. Following this, design was finalised and an automated plant including screening, settling and ceramic membrane filtration, biological treatment in a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) and subsurface irrigation system was installed.Apex staff are now operating the plant via a remote access system and monthly site visits.
